Accessibility Statement

darkpsychology.eu is committed to making its content accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities. This statement describes the level of accessibility currently achieved, the limitations identified, and how to contact us if you encounter difficulties.

1. Voluntary commitment

This statement is voluntary. As a personal editorial blog without commercial activity, darkpsychology.eu is not legally required to comply with the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882, applicable from June 2025), which targets digital services from companies above certain thresholds. Nor does it fall under Spanish Royal Decree 1112/2018, which only obliges the public sector.

However, we consider digital accessibility to be a matter of professional ethics and respect for our readers. We voluntarily adopt the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, as a reference framework.

2. Conformity status

Our self-assessment, carried out in 27 April, 2026, shows that the site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some elements of the site meet the criteria but others, listed below, do not yet fully meet them.

3. Accessibility features currently implemented

The site applies the following accessibility good practices:

3.1 Structure and navigation

  • Hierarchical heading structure (H1, H2, H3) consistent on every page
  • Visible focus on links and form elements
  • Logical tab order via keyboard
  • “Skip to content” link at the start of pages, when applicable to the active theme

3.2 Visual content

  • Sufficient contrast between text and background, in the main blocks of the dark-themed site
  • Resizable text without horizontal scrolling up to a 200% zoom level
  • Alt attribute on illustrative images of articles, with brief descriptions
  • Identification of AI-generated images with an explicit caption

3.3 Forms (comments, contact)

  • Visible labels associated with form fields
  • Validation error messages in clear, accessible language

3.4 Multimedia

  • The site does not currently embed video content. If videos are added in the future, we will commit to providing subtitles or transcripts.

3.5 Language

  • Specification of the language of the page in the HTML attribute (lang="en")
  • The English-language CiberPsicología network includes parallel sites in Spanish, French, and Norwegian for non-English speakers (see footer)

4. Known limitations

We acknowledge the following accessibility limitations, which we are working to resolve:

  • Some illustrative images may lack a sufficiently detailed alt description for screen readers, particularly in older articles. We are conducting a progressive review.
  • The dark theme of the site may make reading difficult for some users. We do not currently offer a “high-contrast” or “light theme” mode, but we are evaluating its inclusion in a future update.
  • Comments left by readers are not subject to internal accessibility review (alt text, simple language).
  • Some embedded elements from third-party services (e.g., external academic citations) may not be fully accessible.
  • Decorative typography in some titles may have moderate contrast in certain configurations.
  • Comprehensive automated WCAG 2.1 audit: not yet carried out by an external accessibility auditor. Self-assessment is internal.

5. Browser and assistive-technology compatibility

The site has been tested on:

  • Modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (recent versions)
  • Mobile devices: iOS Safari, Android Chrome

It has not been formally tested with all popular screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack). Users of these technologies who encounter difficulties are encouraged to contact us using the channels in section 7.

6. Roadmap for accessibility improvements

We voluntarily commit to:

  • Short term (3–6 months): systematic review of alt attributes on existing images
  • Medium term (6–12 months): evaluation of a switchable light/dark mode for users with visual sensitivity
  • Long term: more in-depth automated audit and consideration of an external WCAG audit if site resources allow it

7. Contact for accessibility

If you encounter accessibility barriers or wish to report a specific problem, please contact us at:

8. Alternatives

If a particular content remains inaccessible to you, we will be happy to provide an alternative version (text format, simple description, etc.) on request, within reasonable limits.

9. Compliance feedback

If you consider that our response is unsatisfactory, you may turn to:

  • In Spain: the relevant ombudsman (Defensor del Pueblo) for general accessibility complaints, although their competence is primarily over the public sector
  • In the EU: your national equality body or accessibility authority

10. Updates to this statement

This statement is reviewed periodically and updated at least once a year, or whenever significant changes are made to the site.
